The Idiosyncracies of Boys

Over the past (almost!) five years of being a mom of little boys, I’ve had a lot of new experiences. I’ve discovered that boys find joy in doing the strangest things and, of course, no activity is complete without lots of noise and yelling.

While I don’t always understand why certain activities are fun, I’m learning to see the world through their eyes and to laugh with them when they come up with a fun new activity…such as…

…pushing their tricycles in the swing. I have to admit that I would haveĀ never thought of doing this. I’m sure I gave my dolls rides in swings as a little girl, but this? Nope! But I looked out the back door one day to see Drew and Carter havingĀ so much fun, laughing and giggling, as they gave their tricycles quite the ride.

…and precisely what is the purpose of this? The sense of added danger? :-) I mean, the whole purpose of a swing is to swing. You don’t have to add any other element to accomplish that purpose. However, it is apparent by the smile on his face that swinging on a bike that is hooked on a swing is far superior to just sitting normally.

…why would you want to slide a car upside down when it has four perfectly good wheels? But this afforded us lots of fun! The boys thought it was the funniest thing they’d seen all day and it made me smile to see them enjoy playing together.

…two cups of hot chocolate? :-) Actually, this one I can understand. :-) Twice as much of a good beverage is totally understandable! :-)

So while I may not always understand why they do what they do I do love to see the world through their eyes. While I would never think to play in the way they do, I enjoy laughing with them. And one thing is for sure…life with two little boys is never boring! :-)

One Response to The Idiosyncracies of Boys

Boys are adventure seekers while girls are keepers of the home. I thoroughly enjoy my boys. Because to me their contagious laughter is so worth all of the noise. :) btw, Happy birthday to Drew soon right? :)
